Safe and Sound Five Park Ride
Why not have a day out around five of the best green spaces Derby has to offer?
While our physical event has had to be postponed until 2021, we wanted to give you the chance to try it yourself. We’ve got a map and a suggested route – but because it’s virtual, you can start and end anywhere you like – or even make up your own route!
How it works
Buy a ticket on the Eventbrite page below and we’ll email you a route map and information sheet.
Our map and route will let you start at any of Markeaton Park, Darley Park, Bass Recreation Ground, Alvaston Park or West End Park (aka Markeaton Recreation Ground) and if you follow our route you’ll visit the other parks in a roughly circular way, ending up back where you started. Almost all of our suggested route is off road or uses cycle paths to make it easier to ride and if you follow it without exploring around the areas you visit, it’s about 11 miles.
In addition to the route map, we’re including an information document that gives you a bit of the history of the parks and some things to look out for as you’re exploring.
Do I have to do it all in a day?
The event has gone virtual, so you can do it whenever you like – morning, evening or night, on a weekday or a weekend, half one day, half another… anything goes!
You might decide there’s too much to see in a day, or you want to stop for a picnic halfway, you might decide to add in another park and augment our route. This is your event, so it’s up to you and it’s all absolutely fine!
To make it more interesting, we’ll be offering prizes for the following when we close the virtual event window in September….
- Best Dressed – fancy, smart, your Team Sky lycra… show us what your wardrobe is made of!
- Earliest Ride – are you an early bird? Take a photo with the Cathedral clock (or your watch) and show us how the city looks at dawn!
- Best Fundraiser – We’ll offer a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize for the top 3 fundraisers – so make sure to set up a JustGiving page!
- Best photo – aside from your selfie, what’s the best photo of the city you can take on your way around? Show us the Derby we all love.
