Our Work In Numbers
Formed in 2002, Safe and Sound is a specialist Derbyshire charity that protects and supports children, young people, and their families whose lives have been affected by exploitation.
During 2025-26, Safe and Sound supported 320 children and young people through direct specialist casework.
This year, our Family Support team supported 58 family support cases.
100% of young people showed improvement in at least one area of safety, wellbeing or resilience.
Our Impact
Over the past 20 years Safe & Sound has been on the ground supporting local children and young people – here are a few highlights of our work in 2024/25.
Safe and Sound have had a year of significant grown and made a huge difference to the lives of those affected by exploitation in Derby and Derbyshire. This has been achieved by an outstanding team in collaboration with other partner organisations. Our work embeds the contextual safeguarding place-based risk approach.
Annual Report STAT Highlights
- During 2025-26, Safe and Sound supported 320 children and young people through direct specialist casework.
- This year, our Family Support team supported 58 family support cases.
- 100% of young people showed improvement in at least one area of safety, wellbeing or resilience.
- 79% of young people were aged 13-17, showing that our core work is concentrated around adolescence, when grooming, peer pressure, unsafe relationships, online harm and disruption in education often intensify.
- 46% of young people had a SEND diagnosis or were awaiting assessment.
- Between April 2025 and March 2026, Safe and Sound delivered 193 outreach sessions.
- Across the year, the team provided over 600 hours of visible, community-based outreach and recorded over 3000 engagements with young people across Derby, Swadlincote, Long Eaton and Ilkeston.
- During 2025–26, we delivered 225 workshops to 4,981 children and young people across Derby City and Derbyshire schools.
- Our youth work activities at Cotton Lane are extremely well attended, with an average of over 20 young people attending every evening.
- We have had over 200 Family Group Conferencing referrals in the duration of the project.
