Support from Derby Businesses

Yesterday, we held our first ever Bondholder Breakfast. Around 40 fellow Marketing Derby Bondholders attended the event, where they learned more about child sexual exploitation and the ways in which they can help us tackle this form of abuse.

Our guests also heard from Peter Goodman, the Chief Constable of Derbyshire Constabulary, and the Mayor of Derby, Councillor John Whitby, about why they have chosen to raise money for Safe & Sound.

Peter Goodman talked about why he is supporting us, “My primary job is to protect the most vulnerable from harm. Safe & Sound help me to do that which is one of the many reasons I have made them my charity throughout my tenure as chief constable and because I believe they are one of the most important non-profit organisations throughout Derbyshire. “

The Mayor spoke about his experience as a foster carer and the significance of Safe & Sound in supporting vulnerable children and young people in Derby. He also presented us with a cheque for £2,000. This was a really lovely surprise, and will help us to continue to make a difference to the lives of children and young people affected by sexual exploitation.

As a charity we are working towards a world where children and young people are free from sexual exploitation and abuse, and we rely on grants and donations from the public and others to enable us to do this. If we have helped one person to recognise and respond to a child at risk or made someone commit to helping us to raise money, then the event has been a success.

A massive thank you to our guest speakers, Marketing Derby and the University of Derby for hosting the event, Century Mobile for sponsoring the catering and providing a smartphone for the prize draw, and Cactus Images for taking pictures.
